January 21, 2026: Midweek News Brief – God at Work Among Us
This past weekend was filled with grace upon grace. Kerry Newness, Joan Beharie, and I had a
wonderful Emmaus experience alongside our Catholic friends next door. Walking with Jesus
from the moment we boarded the bus on Friday evening until our return on Sunday was truly
heavenly. We laughed and we cried. We listened and we prayed. We broke bread, shared stories,
ate together, and then began again—each moment different, each experience unique, each one
sacred.
Many of our United Methodist brothers and sisters are familiar with the Walk to Emmaus, and I
highly recommend it, especially within our Wesleyan tradition. It is a powerful reminder that
Christ still walks with us on the road, revealing himself in community, conversation, and the
breaking of bread.
I also want to share that my brother-in-law’s Celebration of Life in Haiti was deeply uplifting.
From the heartfelt testimonies, to the men’s group presentation, to the sermon, I truly believe he
would have been honored by the words spoken on his behalf. It was a blessing not only for those
present on the island, but also for the siblings and family members here who could not travel.
Thank you for your continued prayers and love for the people of Haiti; they are felt and deeply
appreciated.
As a church family, let us continue to lift up those among us who are in need of God’s healing
touch. Let us also pray faithfully for our church. God is truly at work in our midst.
As Scripture reminds us:
“So encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are already doing.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:11
May this be the prayer and practice of every member of New Horizon.
