Dear New Horizon family,I hope you are having a very special day.
I wanted to share with you a few words from Bishop Carter, “Our General Conference met over the past two weeks, the delegates were from forty nations and by a strong consensus, often 80%-90%, the church removed restrictive language that was harmful to the LGBTQ+ community.
At the same time, the church honored the freedom and conscience of local churches to bear witness to the love of Christ in their own contexts and communities. We are a denomination and a local church with traditional, moderate and progressive people. If you are here, and see yourself in any of these words, you are welcome here! We want and need you. There is a saying that has guided churches for several hundred years: In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, charity. The translation of the General Conference to the local church is important. We took a faithful step into the expansiveness of God’s love and mercy this week. “
If you have questions or would like to speak with myself, Pastor Lisa or Lay Minister Glory please call me or Ann and set a time. If you decide you would like to leave the UMC please also set a time for us to speak. We long for unity and healing for all.
Love Jacqui
